Dr. Isamar Troncoso

TheSSML professor researching digital marketplaces using econometrics, causal inference, and machine learning to model behavior.

Professor Isamar Troncoso is a rising scholar whose work sits at the intersection of marketing science, digital marketplace design, and computational modeling. As an Assistant Professor of Business Administration in the Marketing Unit at Harvard Business School, she brings deep expertise in data-driven research methodologies that directly support The Standard School of Machine Learning’s mission to connect advanced analytics with real-world decision-making.

Her research focuses on understanding how platform architecture, interface design, and technological innovation shape user behavior within digital marketplaces. By combining econometrics, causal inference, and machine learning, Professor Troncoso uncovers unintended behavioral consequences of platform mechanisms and develops sophisticated models—such as representation learning approaches—to analyze consumer choice patterns across large assortments. Her work offers valuable insights for improving digital platform design, optimizing recommendation systems, and strengthening data-driven marketing strategies.

Professor Troncoso holds a PhD in Business Administration (Marketing) from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business, where she built her foundation in empirical research and computational analytics. She also earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Chile, equipping her with strong quantitative and analytical skills early in her academic journey.

At TheSSML, she contributes an essential perspective on how machine learning, behavioral data, and analytical rigor can redefine marketplace design and modern marketing systems. Her approach empowers students to understand not only how digital platforms operate but also how to ethically and intelligently shape them for the future.
